Peu de soutien à Israël en Europe et beaucoup en Amérique

"Selon nos enquêtes, près de 80 pour cent des personnes vivant en Europe n'ont pas accès aux sources d'information sur la réalité de la situation au Moyen-Orient, et pourtant, beaucoup d'entre elles ont une opinion à ce sujet, principalement et malheureusement pas très favorable à Israël." (Vadim Rabinovich, 2012)  


 Un sondage réalisé en 2012 par Gallup révèle qu'aux Etats-Unis à Israël reste très élevé à 71%.  Rien de tel en Europe.  En 2011, un sondage de la BBC révélait qu'à peine 19% de Britanniques avaient une image positive d'Israël alors qu'aux Etats-Unis elle reste très haute à 71%...

Dans un sondage commandé par la Commission européenne en 2003, resté tristement célèbre, les sondés de la majorité des pays européens (53%) voyaient en Israël la plus grande menace contre la paix mondiale (bien pire que la Corée du Nord, l'Iran et l'Afghanistan.  Le NouvelObs titrait  Un sondage européen scandalise Israël" et bien entendu pas les Européens: "la présidence italienne de l'UE s'est déclarée "surprise et contrariée" par ce sondage et affirmait que ce résultat "ne reflètait pas la position de l'UE"".  Une fois de plus ce sont les Américains qui ont dû intervenir. "Ces résultats sont choquants. Penser qu'Israël est la plus grande menace contre la paix dans le monde, une menace plus grand que celle posée par la Corée du Nord, l'Iran et l'Afghanistan, défie l'entendement et est un fantasme raciste qui montre tout simplement que l'antisémitisme est profondément enraciné dans la société européenne, plus maintenant que dans n'importe quelle autre période depuis la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale", a déclaré le rabbin Marvin Hier, doyen et fondateur du Simon Wiesenthal Center:

Results of a new poll commissioned by the European Commission show that Israel is believed by Europeans in 15 countries to be the greatest threat to world peace, greater than North Korea, Iran, or Afghanistan.

While the European Commission will release the full results of the poll on Monday, the International Herald Tribune reported that the 7,500 people polled living in the European Union (500 in each of the 15 E.U. member states) were presented with a list of 15 countries and asked if these countries present a threat to world peace. Shockingly, Israel was rated first.

This poll is an indication that Europeans have bought into the vilification and demonization campaign directed against the State of Israel and her supporters by European leaders and media.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center is voicing its outrage directly to European Commission President Romano Prodi (pictured right) and we ask you to do the same.

"These shocking results, that Israel is the greatest threat to world peace, bigger than North Korea, Iran and Afghanistan, defies logic and is a racist flight of fancy that only shows that antisemitism is deeply embedded within European society, more now than in any other period since the end of World War II," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the Center's dean and founder.

"If the results of this survey are as reported, then Israel should draw the only conclusion possible: that the European Union and its members should play no role in any future Middle East peace process," Hier concluded.

Center officials are scheduled to meet with Javier Solana, Secretary General of the European Union, in November to discuss this and related issues.
